Pacific NWeaving State Standards with Units of Inquiry
Session: Block 1: Friday 11:15 to 12:30, Room: Pacific N In this session, the panel will discuss curriculum mapping as it relates to the IB Primary Years Programme Units of Inquiry and state/local curriculum. The intended outcome will be to provide ideas and strategies for grade level teams to collaboratively marry a rigorous program of study to local expectations. Each participant will leave with effective models of this integration. Weaving Web 2.0 into Classroom Practice
Session: Block 4: Saturday 11:15 to 12:30, Room: Pacific N This session will consider current developments in Web 2.0 technologies, e.g. blogs, wikis and social bookmarking, and how they have been implemented by practitioners to improve teaching and learning in the classroom. The session is aimed at teachers and school leadership new to the Web 2.0 paradigm, but who want to know more about how educational technology and social networking are impacting Cogito Ergo Facio: Developing Service-Oriented Students
Session: Block 2: Friday 2:00 to 3:15, Room: Pacific N A multifaceted panel (administrator, instructional coach, teacher, and Middle Years Programme Coordinator) explore models and strategies for developing authentic community service in a program that serves a large, diverse public school. How can schools serving second language learners and children of poverty work collaboratively to achieve both local curriculum standards and IB best practices? The Journey to Going Green
Session: Block 7: Sunday 11:00 to 12:15, Room: Pacific N Throughout the world, schools are taking measures to raise awareness and create eco-friendly environments. This seminar will present a conceptual model of a school on its way to "going green." By using the Areas of Interaction as a framework, schools can create cross-curricular units and programs to raise awareness. Motivating Urban Students to Become IB Learners
Session: Block 3: Friday 3:45 to 5:00, Room: Pacific N This session presents proven classroom strategies that help motivate historically under-achieving, urban students to "think globally." Participants will also hear from an urban school administrator about the implementation of the Middle Years Programme in a middle school with a history of school improvement. Session: Block 6: Saturday 3:45 to 5:00, Room: Pacific N This session provides content and pedagogy for teaching about the Arab World, the wider Middle East, and the even wider world of Islam, offering teachers with the background and understandings to teach these areas of curriculum and to better serve Muslim students and their families. The session will be hands-on and hand-outs will be provided for immediate classroom application. |
