Session: Block 1: Friday 11:15 to 12:30, Room: Pacific I Educators often place professional learning communities and collaborative teams at the heart of school improvement, IB teachers and students benefit greatly from providing time for such collaboration. During this time they establish SMART goals, create common assessments, analyze results, and use results to address shortcomings and capitalize on strengths. Rethinking Curriculum and Re-Energizing Teaching
Session: Block 5: Saturday 2:00 to 3:15, Room: Pacific I Participants will engage in an examination and discussion of the curriculum revision and alignment process based on the IB Middle Years Programme pedagogical model developed by the Corning Public School District. They will reflect on ways to strengthen the learning process and improve the achievement levels of all students through the integration of the MYP and local curricula. Session: Block 3: Friday 3:45 to 5:00, Room: Pacific I Maggie Doyne graduated from West Morris Mendham High School in 2005. She had made the unusual decision to take a gap year and spent that time in a LeapNow program settling into an orphanage in India teaching English. She fell in love with the kids, the work, and the landscape of India. 21st Century Thinkers: Students and Teachers Acting on the Learner Profile
Session: Block 2: Friday 2:00 to 3:15, Room: Pacific I This interactive session invites participants to experience practical applications of the IB Learner Profile for students and educators. Presenters will share configuration maps for IB Learner Profile concepts and demonstrate how these maps drive student and teacher reflection, self-assessment, goal-setting, and thoughtful action. Giving Kids the Tools to Think Before They Act
Session: Block 6: Saturday 3:45 to 5:00, Room: Pacific I Rather than using discipline as a management tool, learn how to use it to teach students to be better problem-solvers, conflict-resolvers, and reflective decision-makers. This session highlights discipline education initiatives at Lincoln Junior High School, including a three-day culture camp, which provides an intense program used to acculturate students to the expectations of the school. Session: Block 7: Sunday 11:00 to 12:15, Room: Pacific I This session will provide a brief overview of the IB North American professional development and school services activities. New developments will be highlighted with a focus on Level 3 workshops. These include subject specific areas of interest, pedagogy, learning theory, and areas of scholarly inquiry. Participants will have the opportunity to provide input and ideas for future workshops. Strategies for Seeking Legislative Support for IB Programmes
Session: Block 4: Saturday 11:15 to 12:30, Room: Pacific I This session will review mechanisms available to support IB programme development, teacher professional development, offsetting of examination fee payment, inclusion of Diploma Programme subjects in the approved and standardized lists for graduation, designation of the IB Diploma as meeting state or provincial graduation requirements, and state and/or district implementation of the continuum of IB |
