Achieving Equity in the Middle Years Programme through Socratic Seminars
Audience: Middle Years Programme Teachers attending this session will learn how to incorporate Socratic seminars into units as a means of self-discovery and expansion of holistic learning. Socratic seminars and cross-curricular teaming are fundamental components of MYP classes which effectively incorporate the IB assessment criterion. Additionally, the use of Socratic seminars illustrate an instructional methodology that provides access to all students and public schools. Shared materials will include successful strategies for effective MYP implementation. Sheri Golden, Magnet Grant Coordinator, Garner Magnet High SchoolSheri Golden is a Magnet Grant Coordinator in the Wake County Public School System, located in Raleigh, North Carolina. She is a previous Language A teacher. Within the district, she works with teachers in an effort to effectively and naturally blend the Middle Years Programme aims and objectives with local and state mandates. Ms Golden is also a MYP workshop leader and an school candidacy consultant. Amy Bennett, Language A Teacher, Garner Magnet High SchoolAmy Bennett is a National Board Certified teacher in her seventh year. She currently teaches tenth grade Language A and Advanced Placement preparation classes at Garner Magnet High School in the Wake County Public School System where she is the Personal Project Lead Teacher. |
