Building an IB Research Agenda

As it matures as an organization, the IB is increasingly in need of research to provide evidence of programme quality as well as to inform its ongoing curriculum and professional development efforts. This session will review the recently formulated IB research agenda, discuss ways in which to better align the organization's capacity to collect and analyze data with the research interests of IB World Schools, and investigate research being undertaken by practitioners. An annotated bibliography of research relating to the Diploma Programme will be reviewed as will several new IB research support initiatives. The session will also include a round table discussion of research issues.


Richard Caffyn, Head of Research Support and Development, International Baccalaureate

Dr Richard Caffyn is Head of Research Support and Development with the IB research team located at the University of Bath. He is responsible for developing research systems for practitioner researchers and for encouraging school-based research. His research areas include international schools, school staff cultures, micropolitics, and management. Dr Caffyn has worked as both a teacher and divisional head in schools in Norway, Azerbaijan, Romania and Austria.

James Cambridge, Head of Research Projects, International Baccalaureate

Dr James Cambridge is Head of Research Projects with the International Baccalaureate research team at the University of Bath. He has worked in the United Kingdom, the Middle East and southern Africa in a variety of educational contexts including science teaching, assessment, curriculum development, initial teacher education and continuing professional development. His current research interests include enquiries into organizational culture, evaluation of institutions and educational programs, institutional mentoring partnerships, and intergenerational learning. Dr Cambridge's publications include chapters in edited books and articles in refereed journals.
