Weaving State Standards with Units of Inquiry

In this session, the panel will discuss curriculum mapping as it relates to the IB Primary Years Programme Units of Inquiry and state/local curriculum. The intended outcome will be to provide ideas and strategies for grade level teams to collaboratively marry a rigorous program of study to local expectations. Each participant will leave with effective models of this integration. The session will be beneficiary to both authorized and candidate schools.


Pete Settelmayer, Instructional Learning Specialist, Morris Brandon Elementary School

Pete Settelmayer is the Instructional Learning Specialist at Morris Brandon Elementary School in Atlanta, Georgia. Mr Settelmayer was a third and fourth grade teacher before becoming the Instructional Learning Specialist at Brandon Elementary. He has a master's Degree in Urban Educational Studies and has worked with both authorized and candidate schools.

Theresa Bowen, PYP Coordinator, Morris Brandon Elementary School

Theresa Bowen is the Primary Years Programme Coordinator at Morris Brandon Elementary School in Atlanta, Georgia. She was an elementary school teacher in the Atlanta Public Schools system for 35 years and began teaching at Brandon Elementary School in August 2001. In 2005, she became Morris Brandon's full-time PYP Coordinator. Morris Brandon became an authorized PYP World School in February 2007. She is currently a member of the Coordinator's Networking Group within the Atlanta Public Schools system.

Karen Evans, Principal, Morris Brandon Elementary School

Karen Evans is the Principal of Morris Brandon Elementary in Atlanta, Georgia. She has been an educator for 29 years and was a classroom teacher and an assistant principal prior to becoming principal in 2003. Ms Evans became the head of an IB World School when Morris Brandon received authorization in February, 2007. She is currently a member of the Principal's IB Networking Group within the Atlanta Public School system.

Susan Richards, Teacher, Morris Brandon Elementary School

Susan Richards is a fifth grade Teacher at Morris Brandon Elementary School in Atlanta, Georgia. She has a total of 14 years of classroom experience and 15 years experience in the corporate sector working for IBM. She has taught both fourth and fifth grade at Morris Brandon Elementary School, which received its authorization as an IB World School in February, 2007.
