The session will explore a discussion-based model guiding students to consider concrete service projects aligned with the values expressed in the foundational documents. Presenters will demonstrate assessment directed at deepening student reflection upon the effectiveness of their project choices and indicate a portable model to be aligned with local communities. Participants will be asked to consider how students can develop research projects based upon their personal reactions to the values engendered within those selected.


Paul Gallagher, Diploma Programme Coordinator; Assistant Principal, Riverview High School

Paul Gallagher currently serves as the Diploma Programme Coordinator and Assistant Principal at Riverview High School in Sarasota, Florida and as a Visiting Professor in Educational Policy at the University of South Florida. Mr Gallagher holds an Ed.D., a CAGS, and a M.Ed. He has previously co-led a presentation at the 2006 IB North America ARC, as well as a Level three workshop on the IB and the College Selection Process, and is in discussion with IB North America on conducting research on the Learner Profile. He also is a Diploma Programme consultant, site visitor, and workshop trainer.

Thomas Kiely, Principal, Camden Catholic High school

Thomas J. Kiely currently serves as the Principal of Camden Catholic High School in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Holding degrees from Georgetown University and the Catholic University of America and an honorary doctorate from Mt. St. Mary's College, he has served as the Diploma Programme Cordinator at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Maryland, and has taught Theory of Knowledge and IB World Religions. He has had work published by the Georgetown University Liberal Studies Program, and is currently working on a thesis exploring integral curriculum in US Catholic high schools. He resides in Collingswood, New Jersey, a suburb of Philadelphia.
