Giving Kids the Tools to Think Before They Act

Audience: Middle Years Programme
Session: Block 6: Saturday 3:45 to 5:00, Room: Pacific I

Rather than using discipline as a management tool, learn how to use it to teach students to be better problem-solvers, conflict-resolvers, and reflective decision-makers. This session highlights discipline education initiatives at Lincoln Junior High School, including a three-day culture camp, which provides an intense program used to acculturate students to the expectations of the school. Additionally, Lincoln students receive social skills curriculum for two periods a week over nine weeks. Administrators do not simply assign consequences for disruptive behavior, but engage students to model appropriate behavior and provide students with tools to make better choices.
