Journeys in Film uses world language films combined with innovative standards-based lesson plans as one method for developing "international-mindedness." This program captures the imagination of students, expands critical thinking skills, and fosters human connections through visual storytelling combined with related lesson plans in core academics and enrichment subjects. Students are inspired to participate in today's increasingly interdependent world as a result of engaging activities designed for deeper global learning. Currently implemented in 24 Chicago Public Schools IB Programmes, join us to learn how to integrate Journeys in Film into your IB curriculum offerings.


Anna Rutins, Director of Programs, Journeys in Film - Educating for Global Understanding

Anna Mara Rutins has over 15 years of international professional experience including 6 years working overseas with various development and government agencies. She specializes in the development of international youth programs and curricular materials, as well as executive trainings for businesses interfacing with counterparts in other countries. Anna's experience includes positions with the United States Peace Corps, the Open Society Institute / Soros Foundation, and Berlitz International. She is multilingual, and has worked in 9 countries and traveled to 25 worldwide. Since 2004, Anna has devoted her professional life to the growing of Journeys in Film as the Director of Programs.

Nicole Aquino, MYP Coordinator, Henry R. Clissold Elementary School

Nicole Aquino is in her second year as the MYP Coordinator at Clissold School in Chicago. Prior to being a coordinator, she taught Spanish at Santiago High School in Corona, CA, the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts in Los Angeles, and Spanish B at Clissold School. She enjoys traveling, reading, and dining out and recently became a mother.

Meg Venckus, IB Administrator (PYP/MYP), Chicago Public Schools

Meg Venckus has been an educator in the Chicago Public Schools for 34 years. She served as the Middle Years Programme Coordinator at Bogan High School for six years, and currently is the International Baccalaureate Administrator (PYP/MYP) for the 21 authorized and 4 candidate programs in Chicago.
