Integrating Holocaust and Genocide Issues into the IB Curriculum

The purpose of this session is to demonstrate how and why the study of the Holocaust and genocide are used as a vehicle for discussion and debate and action from ethical, political, scientific, religious, sociological and artistic points of view throughout the IB Diploma Programme. Objectives of the session are to: present best practice ideas, present and discuss varied methodology used in schools worldwide and demonstrate how aspects of the IB Diploma Programme can and do interrelate to enhance students' "international-mindness."

Richard is the IB Diploma Coordinator and theory of knowledge instructor at Minneapolis Southwest High School. He has traveled extensively through Eastern and Central Europe and studied issues of the Holocaust and genocide and developed and implemented curriculum designed to use these events to integrate IB Diploma Programme courses and CAS.
