Room: Marina Room An IB North America Programme Specialist will be available to facilitate a dialogue among district officials, provide information regarding services available to school districts, as well as answer any individual questions. Please note this session is entirely interactive and does not include a presentation. Developing Authentic Projects for Service and Action
Session: Block 3: Friday 3:45 to 5:00, Room: Marina Room The session will explore a discussion-based model guiding students to consider concrete service projects aligned with the values expressed in the foundational documents. Presenters will demonstrate assessment directed at deepening student reflection upon the effectiveness of their project choices and indicate a portable model to be aligned with local communities. Session: Block 5: Saturday 2:00 to 3:15, Room: Marina Room In recent years, considerable energy has been devoted by IB to developing both an understanding of and a classroom approach to fostering international mindedness in IB students, a central component across the continuum of IB programmes. Peer Support Groups that Foster Academic Achievement
Session: Block 7: Sunday 11:00 to 12:15, Room: Marina Room The panel will present and discuss how a large, ethnically and economically diverse, suburban public high school in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area has developed peer group models through which students not only support each other academically, but also create activities of increased personal and academic support for all students. Refugee Students and the Diploma Programme: A Story of Two Schools
Session: Block 2: Friday 2:00 to 3:15, Room: Marina Room In 2004, Riverstone International School partnered with the Idaho Office for Refugees and a family foundation to enroll refugee students in Riverstone's IB Diploma Programme. Fifteen refugee students from Ethiopia, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, and Ukraine were admitted to the school on full scholarships. The first refugee graduate (2007) now attends the College of Idaho. IB North America Research Update
Session: Block 1: Friday 11:15 to 12:30, Room: Marina Room During this interactive session, participants will have an opportunity to hear an overview of the research questions guiding the development of research projects in the region and learn about some of the recent studies in the IB, including the IB School Census, a case study of IB student performance and a study of IB students in post-secondary education. Session: Block 4: Saturday 11:15 to 12:30, Room: Marina Room This session will explore how the implementation of the Primary Years Programme, which focuses on inquiry-based learning and taps into all eight multiple intelligences, can help to ensure that schools achieve adequate yearly progress and meet state goals for improved academic achievement. |
