IB Credit...or Not: Emerging Issues and Possible Solutions

Audience: Diploma Programme
Session: Block 5: Saturday 2:00 to 3:15, Room: Pacific L

While university admissions officers are increasingly actively recruiting IB Diploma students, there remains a good deal of tension between their desire to attract prepared students, both academically and socially, and student and parent expectation that course credit be awarded for the rigorous SL courses they have taken. This session will review the status of IB recognition in North America within the context of an "ideal" policy, present the AACRAO/IB North America web-based student registry, review legislative and policy support for the IB, provide an opportunity for dialogue on the credit debate, and seek and offer some possible solutions to validate the strength of the SL course.
