Bring learning to life with Service Learning 101! This session outlines strategies to challenge students to apply their knowledge and skills to solve real-life problems by combing academics with service to the community. Participants will learn how to transform curriculum and community through simple techniques and unique resources for integrating this highly engaging project-based learning strategy.


Jennifer Sims, MYP and PYP Coordinator, Pacific Beach Middle School

In addition to being a Primary Years Programme and Middle Years Programme coordinator, Jennifer Hardison Sims is a Service Learning practitioner and member of the San Diego Service Learning Council. As a bilingual classroom and K-8 certificated library media teacher, volunteer, and community partnerships coordinator, she's integrated project-based learning into classrooms, libraries, and student clubs since 1995. Ms Sims has serves on the bi-national San Diego/Tijuana Board of Project Misericordia, which provides emergency housing in the colonies of Tijuana, Mexico. Her skills in engaging and educating audiences have proven an inspiration to students, educators, and community partners.
