Building a Culture of Trust in the Primary Years Programme
Audience: Primary Years Programme This session will present findings from a 2008 University of La Verne doctoral study on building a culture of trust in schools offering the Primary Years Programme. Highlights include observations from PYP principals, coordinators, and teachers on strategies they have used at their various schools to build trusting relationships that help them implement and sustain the PYP. The presentation will include findings from the study, strategies used by leaders and staff at various schools to build trusting relationships, and an open discussion forum on the value of trust and trust-building strategies. Jane Hartman, Assistant Principal; PYP Coordinator, Carlsbad Unified School DistrictJane Hartman has taught at both private and public schools at all levels of education (kindergarten through college) in her 20-year career prior to becoming an elementary administrator. She has experience with both the socio-economically advantaged and disadvantaged as well as at-risk student populations. As a teacher and administrator, she is a fervent believer in the importance of modeling the IB attitudes and the IB Learner Profile in developing and maintaining trusting relationships that support teacher and student success.
