21st Century Thinkers: Students and Teachers Acting on the Learner Profile
Audience: Primary Years Programme This interactive session invites participants to experience practical applications of the IB Learner Profile for students and educators. Presenters will share configuration maps for IB Learner Profile concepts and demonstrate how these maps drive student and teacher reflection, self-assessment, goal-setting, and thoughtful action. Hands-on activities help participants experience the power of practical application. Presenters will share preliminary research results on effectiveness of implementation. This session captures Rampart High School's journey toward a unified learning community of 21st Century thinkers and doers. Gil Bierman, Head of School , Rampart High SchoolGil Bierman is currently the Head of School at Rampart High School (RHS) for both the Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme, a position he has held since August of 2002. Now in his 21st year at RHS, Gil was originally hired as an English instructor, became the gifted coordinator, was promoted to assistant principal in 1997, and was selected as the principal in 2002. RHS delivers years four and five of the MYP and the Diploma Programme as part of a district wide pre-k through 12 IB initiative. Gil has an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction focused on Gifted Education and an M.A. in English. Organization website: http://www.asd20.org/rhs Clark Maxon, Science teacher, Instructional Coach and Staff Developer, Rampart High SchoolClark Maxon is currently teaching science as part of the Middle Years Programme at Rampart High School (RHS) and supports teachers as a site-based staff developer and instructional coach. He has taught both MYP and Diploma Programme science courses for the past eight years. Before moving to RHS, Clark taught for 13 years at Milpitas High School in California where he served as co-chair of the Chemistry Golden State Exam test development committee, school site coordinator for AVID, ESL mentor and staff developer, and instructional technology coordinator.
