Peer Support Groups that Foster Academic Achievement
Audience: Research The panel will present and discuss how a large, ethnically and economically diverse, suburban public high school in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area has developed peer group models through which students not only support each other academically, but also create activities of increased personal and academic support for all students. The overview will include the establishment and maintenance of effective peer group models that apply to all grade levels. The multimedia format will be specific to the activities and dynamics of school groups, and will also develop an interactive discussion with colleagues interested in all grade levels. Data and materials will feature a two-year study. Frank Carbo, Diploma Programme Coordinator, Robert E. Lee High SchoolFrank J. Carbo, Ed.D. is the Diploma Programme Coordinator at Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, Virginia. He teaches Theory of Knowledge and holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Georgia. Melissa Scott, English teacher - S.G.A. Sponsor, Robert E. Lee High SchoolMelissa Scott teaches English for the Diploma Progrmame at Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, Virginia. She also serves as the Faculty Sponsor for the Student Government Association. |
