If you have ever had a question that you wanted to take straight to the top, this session is for you. The senior leadership of the International Baccalaureate will field all questions, on all topics or issues. This is a wonderful opportunity to share both your concerns and your best ideas with leaders of the IB community.


Drew Deutsch, Regional Director, International Baccalaureate

Drew Deutsch joined the International Baccalaureate in April 2008 as the Regional Director for IB in the North America region. Mr Deutsch has over 15 years experience in the education services industry with The Princeton Review. He served in a wide range of roles across the company's K-12 Services and Test Preparation divisions, most recently as Vice President of Account Management and Operations. Mr Deutsch graduated from Georgetown University in 1992 with a B.A. in Psychology and received his IB Diploma in 1988 from the United Nations International School.

Carl Amrhein, President, IB North America Board of Directors

Dr Carl G. Amrhein is the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) at the University of Alberta. Prior to the University of Alberta, Dr Amrhein spent 17 years at the University of Toronto, initially as Assistant Professor of Geography, then as Chair of the Department of Geography and Graduate Program in Planning, and finally as Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science. Dr Amrhein holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography from Pennsylvania State University and a Ph.D. in Geography from State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr Amrhein is the President of the IB North America Board of Directors.

Jeff Beard, Director General, International Baccalaureate

Jeffrey Beard is the Director General of the IB. Previous to this post, Mr Beard was the Division President and Chief Operating Officer for one of the major operating divisions of Syngenta AG, a world-leading agribusiness based in Basel, Switzerland. Mr Beard graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1972 with a bachelor of science in analytical management, and has two graduate degrees, including an MBA from the University of Wisconsin. Mr Beard has a great personal interest in education. He served as president and member of the West Des Moines school board in Iowa for five years. His two children graduated with IB diplomas from the Vienna International School in the 1990s.

Monique Seefried, Chairman, IB Board of Governers

Monique Seefried completed her undergraduate and graduate studies in history, and also received her Ph.D. at the University of Paris-Sorbonne. Monique has worked in education for 30 years and has also been involved in the archaeological and museum world. She is the Founder and was the Executive Director of the Center for the Advancement and Study of International Education (CASIE). Monique has lectured extensively on art and archaeology topics, as well as on international education. She is also very involved in civic activities and serves on many boards and board committees, including the board of Atlanta International School. Monique is the president of the IB Council of Foundation.
