The Role of the IB Ombudsman

In this session, Mr Flatley will explain the role of the IB Ombudsman, the reason the position was created, the code of ethics and the expected outcomes. He will also provide a summary of his findings and will field questions from schools regarding any of their concerns.


Anthony Flatley, IB Ombudsman, International Baccalaureate

Mr Flatley recently retired from his position of head of Collège Esther-Blondin in Quebec, Canada. For the past six years, he was a member of the Council of Foundation (now the Board of Governors) and chair of the International Heads Representative Committee (now the Heads' Council). During its retreat in August 2007, the IB Board of Governors endorsed the creation of the post of Ombudsman. At this time, Mr Flatley was nominated to the position for a limited period and in a part-time role.
