Addressing the Learner Profile to Enhance Character Education
Audience: Middle Years Programme This session will demonstrate ways in which the IB Learner Profile enhances character education in the Middle Years Programme. The presenters, both experienced educators from a National School of Character, will discuss the connection between the attributes of the Learner Profile with the development of students as active global citizens within a diverse school cultural environment. This interactive session will include practical suggestions, resources, and multimedia presentations. Nelson McLeod, Principal, Newport Mill Middle SchoolNelson McLeod is the Principal of Newport Mill Middle School in Montgomery County, Maryland. Under this leadership, Newport Mill Middle School won the 2007 National Schools of Character Award and the 2006 Maryland State School of Character Award. Mr McLeod is the 2006 recipient of the Washington Post Distinguished Education Leadership Award for Montgomery County. He was selected as the 2007 Maryland State Middle School Principal of the Year by the Maryland Association of Secondary School Principals and received the 2007 Educator of Excellence for Minority Achievement Award by the Maryland State Department Of Education. She has taught English and Reading at the middle school level and holds a degree in Secondary English Education from the University of Maryland at College Park.
