This session will provide practical strategies for closing the achievement gap and increasing diversity in a traditional (non-magnet) public school IB Diploma Programme. Attendees will learn techniques for mapping the IB Diploma Programme curriculum to support the learner profile and ensure the integration of all subject areas. Strategies to increase diversity, use data effectively, adopt a school-wide philosophy, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and access community resources will be shared.
Stephanie DiStasio, Diploma Programme Coordinator, South Pointe High School
Stephanie is the IB Diploma Programme Coordinator at South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She holds a B.A. in French, a master's in Educational Leadership and is National Board certified in World Languages other than English. Before assuming her current role, Stephanie taught English as a second language and French at the middle school level and in the IB Diploma Programme. She currently teaches ab initio French and Theory of Knowledge courses.
Elissa Cox, Math/Science Coordinator, South Pointe High School
Elissa Cox is currently the Math/Science Coordinator at South Pointe High School located in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She has earned a B.A. in Secondary Education and a master's in Mathematics as well as National Board Certification (AYA Mathematics). Throughout the 12 years of her teaching experience, Elissa has had the opportunity to instruct varying levels of students from diverse economic/social backgrounds. She currently teaches the IB Math SL and Theory of Knowledge courses.
