NewsSpeakers Announced for the 2009 IB Conference of the Americas!Each year, the IB Conference of the Americas features provocative speeches from a variety of thought leaders in the fields of education and international issues. This year is no exception. We are pleased to announced that the 2009 IB Conference of the Americas will feature speeches from the following invited guests: Welcome to the 2009 IB Conference of the Americas!Welcome to the website for the first ever IB Americas Conference. Our region now includes IB World Schools from South America, Central America, North America and the Caribbean. It is with this significant development that we will draw from the experience of nearly 1,500 schools and many others seeking authorization to offer an IB programme. This year’s theme, New Thinking for a New World, reflects this change and challenges the IB Americas community to explore this enormous opportunity. We expect well over 1,000 members of the worldwide IB community to participate in the four days of inspiration, collaboration, and reflection at the Québec City Convention Centre. The 2009 IB Americas conference will bring together IB coordinators, teachers, administrators, counselors, school district officials, school board members, ministers of education, parents, researchers, and university representatives. 2008 IB North America 27th Annual Regional Conference a Success!Thank you for helping to make the 2008 IB North America 27th Annual Regional Conference a success. Over 1,200 participants attended this year’s conference, making this our largest to date. Jeffrey Beard, IB Director General Highlights from the 2007 IB North America Annual Regional ConferenceFrom 12-15 July 2007 over 1,000 people gathered in Chicago for IB North America’s 26th annual regional conference. Brad Richardson, IB North America's Regional Director, began proceedings by inviting participants to "breathe in" the best memories of the year and "breathe out" all their frustrations. The conference was entitled "Educating for Our Shared Future," and attendees were challenged and inspired by four keynote speakers. Starting the event was kindergarten teacher Kim Oliver, who was awarded the title of United States National Teacher of the Year in 2006. She delivered a passionate appeal to make sure every child receives the three E's—equal opportunity, early childhood education and excellent teachers. Kim urged us all to collaborate, to provide resources and to involve the local community in order to overcome the obstacles of poverty, race, language and mobility. |
